The Trukai Fun Run auctions in Lae and Port Moresby on March 8 and 9 have greatly boosted Team PNG with the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee raising K530,650 over the two nights from the sale of Fun Run shirts.
President of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, Sir John Dawanincura thanked the corporate community in both centres for their support of the Trukai Fun Run at this year’s auctions.
The auction held in Lae on Wednesday evening saw 21,405 shirts sold for K214,050 with a further K3,500 raised from the sale of a framed official North Queensland Cowboys NRL jersey.
In Port Moresby the following evening 31,200 shirts were sold for 312,000 shirts sold with another K3,000 coming from the sale of a Cowboys jersey and K1,600 from a PNG SP Hunters jersey.
“Buying these shirts means another exciting advertising opportunity for you through the Trukai Fun Run but most importantly, it will greatly assist the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee raise much needed funds for Team PNG,” Sir John said.
“Your support through the purchase of the Fun Run shirts will also assist various schools and institutions around the country to raise extra funds for their projects and enable more people to be a part of this nationwide event,” he said.
Sir John also acknowledged the top five bidders for Lae; Ramu Agri Industries, Traisa, Trukai Industries Ltd, Seeto Kui and Papindo, and for Port Moresby; Tru Wara, IBS, SVS, Kina and Paradise Foods Ltd.
“Your support gives us confidence as we strive to offer the best possibilities for our athletes and our country,” Sir John said.
Major sponsor of the Fun Run, Trukai Industries sponsored PNGOC with 100,000 shirts of which PNGOC hopes to sell them all.
This will greatly assist PNGOC to send Team PNG contingents to the Commonwealth Youth Games at the Bahamas in July, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan in September and the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila in December this year as well as the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in 2018.

Shirts bought and donated to schools can be resold by the schools at a price not exceeding K10, and kept by the schools for their respective projects.
With 47,395 shirts left to sell before the Fun Run event on June 11, PNGOC is appealing to other organisations to buy the shirts.
