PNGOC is set to deliver Oceania Sport Education Programme’s MiSO in October

Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) is set to deliver Oceania Sport Education Programme’s (OSEP) Managing in Sport Organizations (MiSO) administration training program from 8 – 9 October, 2022 in Port Moresby.

As part of the PNGOC’s strategic objective to build up the capacity of the 40 National Federations the PNGOC has scheduled to deliver the OSEP MiSO, the development-level administration training programme in Port Moresby.

This training programme will specifically assist the development needs of the sport executives who are actively working with clubs or federations, to manage and administer sports in the country. It targets executives, paid staff, retiring elite athletes and volunteers.

PNGOC General Secretary, Auvita Rapilla said that this training is essential and it aligns to the PNGOC’s goal to increase and build the capacity of NFs and athletes, including their sports executives, as captured on the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan.

Rapilla added that, “It is designed as the next step for sport administrators, managers and others who have completed the OSEP Sport in Communities Administration course. I encourage National Federations to nominate and endorse a male and a female to attend”.

Candidates have been received representing Cricket, Weightlifting, Swimming, Hockey, Golf, Volleyball, Netball, Rugby League, Fencing, Body Building, Va’a, and Badminton to attend the training program.

The first session will begin on Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th October 2022 at the PNGOC Training Room. It comprises of three (3) modules which integrate gender equity in sports and athlete safeguarding.

These modules are 1. Sporting Pathways in the Pacific 2. Effective Meetings (integrate into sessions) 3. Club / Federation Governance.

This session will be facilitated by OSEP Regional & Master Educators facilitators Auvita Rapilla, Asiani Vagi, Cheryl Amini Kalo and Kinivanagi Karo including OSEP trainee, Mary Nauga from the PNG Sports Foundation.

The OSEP MiSO has 7 Modules and all sessions will be delivered by other OSEP-certified National Master Educators within PNG over weekends throughout the month of October.

It is hoped that this particular programme will be delivered on an annual basis.

The successful completion of this course with the active participation of participants with focused support from their NF will allow strong consideration towards continuing on with the International Olympic Committee's flagship Diploma in Advanced Sport Management Course or Managing Olympic Sport Organizations (MOSO), which is expected to start in early 2023.
